ICSE (Class 10) and ISC (Class 12) maths both changed for the 2027 exams. For families in DLF Phase 4 – and the many ICSE and ISC students across Gurgaon – it is worth checking that your child's preparation matches the new papers. These facts come from CISCE's 2027 syllabus, specimen papers and regulations.
ICSE Class 10 maths: what to know for 2027
- One paper, three hours, 80 marks, plus 20 marks of internal assessment. The paper was two and a half hours in 2026; the 2027 syllabus and specimen paper say three hours.
- Section A (40 marks): attempt all questions.
- Section B (40 marks): attempt any four questions, 10 marks each.
- The syllabus content is otherwise essentially unchanged from 2026.
- CISCE does not publish marks per unit for ICSE maths, so every chapter needs attention.
- The 2027 specimen paper tags questions by skill (understanding, application, analysis, evaluation), so expect questions that test reasoning, not just routine methods.
What this means for preparation: the extra half hour does not mean an easier paper. Students should practise full three-hour papers, and learn to choose their four Section B questions quickly and wisely.
ISC Class 12 maths: a different paper for 2027
The biggest change is in ISC:
- Paper I (Theory): three hours, 80 marks. Paper II: project work, 20 marks.
- The old structure – Section A compulsory, then a choice between Section B and Section C – has been removed.
- The 2027 specimen paper has four sections, A to D, with 20 questions, all compulsory: Section A (20 marks, one-mark questions), Section B (14 marks, two-mark questions), Section C (21 marks, three-mark questions) and Section D (25 marks, five-mark questions), with internal choices in some questions.
- Linear regression has been dropped from the syllabus.
- A scientific calculator such as the Casio fx-82MS (or similar, without information-retrieval features) is permitted.
What this means for preparation: students can no longer skip a whole section, so vectors, 3-D geometry and the application topics all need covering, alongside the large calculus portion of the syllabus.
Mathematics or Applied Mathematics in ISC?
ISC now lists Applied Mathematics (885) alongside Mathematics (860). The regulations describe Mathematics for students heading towards mathematics, physics, engineering or architecture, and Applied Mathematics for students heading towards commerce, economics, humanities, biosciences and similar fields. The two cannot be taken together. Choose in Class 11 with the school, based on your child's plans.
What an ICSE/ISC maths home tutor should focus on
- Concise, accurate working. CISCE marking rewards method; untidy or skipped steps lose marks.
- Full-length timed papers in the final months – especially important now that both papers are three hours.
- ICSE: choosing Section B questions, and regular practice on geometry constructions, trigonometry and statistics.
- ISC: strong calculus, and no gaps now that every section is compulsory.
- Project work in ISC (two projects, 10 marks each): the tutor can guide topic choice and checking, but the work must be the student's own.
