Maths Home Tuition in DLF Phase 4, Gurgaon: A Weekly Routine That Works

A simple weekly maths routine for DLF Phase 4 families – how home tuition, school homework and self-practice fit together, what changes from Class 6 to Class 12, and how to tell whether the tuition is working.

Maths Home Tuition in DLF Phase 4, Gurgaon: A Weekly Routine That Works

DLF Phase 4 – the area around Galleria Market, Supermart and the border with Sector 28 – is a busy, family-heavy neighbourhood. Children here study in many different schools and boards, and most families we meet ask the same question: how do we make maths tuition part of a normal week, rather than one more thing to fit in?

This guide sets out a weekly routine that works for most students, and how to adjust it by class.

The three parts of a good maths week

Tuition alone does not raise marks. What raises marks is a week with three parts:

  1. Teaching (the tuition session). New ideas explained properly, and gaps from earlier classes fixed.
  2. Practice (the student, alone). Short, regular practice on what was taught – 20–30 minutes on non-tuition days is often enough.
  3. Checking (the next session). The tutor checks the practice, corrects habits, and adjusts the plan.

If one part is missing, progress stalls. Many students have plenty of teaching (school and tuition) and almost no independent practice.

A sample week for a Class 9 or 10 student

  • Monday – tuition (1 hour): new topic, worked examples, the student tries questions with the tutor watching.
  • Tuesday – 25 minutes: school homework plus three or four questions from the tuition topic.
  • Wednesday – school only: a rest day for maths, or a short look at mistakes.
  • Thursday – tuition (1 hour): check practice, fix errors, a short timed set.
  • Friday – 25 minutes: mixed revision from earlier chapters.
  • Weekend – 40 minutes once: one longer set or a past-paper section, then rest.

That is roughly two hours of tuition and two hours of independent work a week – manageable alongside other subjects.

How the routine changes by class

  • Classes 6–8: one or two sessions a week. Focus on number sense, fractions, basic algebra and neat working. Practice can be just 15 minutes a day. See Class 6, Class 7 and Class 8.
  • Classes 9 and 11: two sessions a week. These years carry the foundations for the board exams – algebra and geometry in Class 9, functions and the start of calculus in Class 11.
  • Classes 10 and 12: two or three sessions a week, with past papers from the second term. For CBSE Class 10, plan around two board exams – the compulsory one in February and the optional one in May.
  • IGCSE and IB MYP: two sessions a week, with planning around school assessments and, for IGCSE, practice on both the calculator and the non-calculator papers.

Board matters in Phase 4

Phase 4 families use CBSE, ICSE and ISC, Cambridge IGCSE and IB schools across Gurgaon. The routine above works for all of them, but the content of the sessions should follow the board:

  • CBSE: NCERT first, then CBSE sample papers; marks for method and presentation.
  • ICSE: the 2027 paper is three hours, with Section A compulsory and a choice of four questions in Section B – timing practice matters.
  • IGCSE: Core or Extended tier, with separate non-calculator and calculator papers.
  • IB MYP: assessment against criteria, not just marks.

How to tell whether home tuition is working

After four to six weeks you should see at least two of these:

  • Fewer careless errors in school notebooks.
  • Your child starts homework without being chased.
  • Class test marks on recent topics move up.
  • Your child can explain a method in their own words.

If none of these is happening, talk to the tutor – the plan, the frequency or the fit may need to change.
