CBSE Maths Home Tutor in Gurgaon: A Parent's Guide for Classes 9–12

What a good CBSE maths home tutor in Gurgaon should know about the 2026–27 changes, how to judge a demo class, how often to schedule sessions in each class, and the questions to ask before you decide.

CBSE Maths Home Tutor in Gurgaon: A Parent's Guide for Classes 9–12

Gurgaon has a large CBSE student population and no shortage of maths tutors. The difference between a helpful tutor and an expensive habit usually comes down to a few things: knowing the current syllabus, having a plan, and teaching in a way that suits the student. This guide is meant to help you judge any tutor, whether or not you choose Maths Bodhi.

1. Does the tutor know what changed this year?

2026–27 brought real changes to CBSE maths. A tutor should be able to explain them without looking anything up:

  • Class 9 has a redesigned curriculum and a new NCERT textbook, Ganita Manjari, plus an optional 25-mark Mathematics Advanced paper. (See our Class 9 explainer.)
  • Class 10 now has two board exams – a compulsory one in mid-February and an optional one in May. (See our two board exams guide.)
  • Class 10 students in 2026–27 can still choose Standard or Basic, which share the same syllabus but differ in question mix. (See Standard vs Basic.)
  • Class 11 has a list of topics assessed only internally, such as the chain rule – which students still need for Class 12. (See our Class 11 guide.)
  • Class 12: calculus carries 35 of the 80 board marks. (See why calculus decides the result.)

2. Does the tutor teach to the board's marking?

CBSE board answers earn marks for method and presentation, not just the final answer. In the demo, watch whether the tutor shows complete, well-set-out working – the way an examiner wants to see it – and uses NCERT exercises and CBSE sample papers, not only "harder" material.

3. Is there a plan for the year?

A good tutor can sketch the year in the first meeting: which chapters when, when sample papers start, and how internal assessment (tests, portfolio and activities) is supported. Our class guides show the kind of term plan to expect: Class 9, Class 10, Class 11 and Class 12.

4. How often should sessions be?

There is no single right answer, but as a starting point many families find:

  • Classes 9 and 11: one or two sessions a week to stay ahead of school.
  • Classes 10 and 12: two or three sessions a week, rising before the board exams.
  • Before an exam: extra sessions focused on timed papers and weak units, not new content.

The right frequency depends on how far the student is from their target – a good tutor will suggest a schedule after a diagnostic, not before.

5. What a useful demo class looks like

  • A short diagnostic: a few questions to find the student's actual level.
  • One topic taught properly, with the student doing most of the work.
  • A clear recommendation: what to fix first and how long it might take.

Questions to ask before deciding

  1. How will you find out where my child is now?
  2. What will the first month focus on?
  3. How do you prepare students for CBSE-style written answers?
  4. How do you support internal assessment work?
  5. How will you report progress, and how often?
  6. Can sessions move online when travel is not practical?
